Keeping Kids Home
3/12

How's everyone doing with new Coronavirus hanging over us?

Personally, I went from initially worried, to calm after hearing a couple of weeks ago my doctor friends saying flu is a bigger risk, to worried again with rising local cases due to Biogen, to skeptical when my husband thinking we should need to stockpile food, to wiser after a friend sent me this very well-written article on Coronavirus prep from the Scientific American.

On Monday we were originally gonna have my inlaws come see my son's 5th grade ballroom dance performance. But decided against that since the grandparents are older and there will be hundreds of people.

The CPS Parents mailing list has been flooded with emails on the virus.  So many that it's hard to keep up with them. :(  Now there's talk of a pledge to keep kids home, while recognizing that's easier to do for parents with means.  Some parents are looking into educational options, while others feel a few week of no education is probably an okay price to pay.

Talking to other parents on a Wechat group, some are extremely worried while others are more balanced.  Some parents with elderly parents are keeping kids home, while others are required by work to stay home and decided to also keeping their kids home.  My short-term focus has now become how to keep my kids home and work and not go crazy.

I had my kids create a schedule for themselves.  My girl wrote down her school schedule, while my son decided to type in his on a Google Spreadsheet in Chinese.  (Fancy!)  In there he listed doing Chinese reading and some writing, some gaming, Lego, and Math homework.

It's definitely easier for my son the 5th grader to follow his schedule than his 2nd grade sister. ;-)  He wrote down the plot for the Diary of Wimpy Kids book we checked out from the library.

Below we do have some upcoming events, but be first make sure they're still happening, by clicking thru to the actual event Website.

So, how are you feeling about the Coronavirus?

Do leave a comment and explain.
