Each summer, Underground Railway Theater provides training for young people ages 7 and up through classes and intensive programs. Aspiring theater artists learn skills in script analysis, ensemble building, puppetry, mask, and performance, alongside URT Teaching Artists and CST professionals.
Session I: June 25-29, Transformations — $350
Jump into fascinating folktales from around the world, and use fundamentals of character work, voice, and movement to become someone completely new!
Session IIA: July 2-3, Kids Moth: the Art of Storytelling — $150
Everyone has a story worth telling – come learn how to tell it! In this class, students will brainstorm, write, and rehearse a 2-minute story to share off-script at the end of the workshop.
Session IIB: July 5-6, Bringing Puppets to Life — $150
Use puppets from a variety of styles to bring fun creatures to life. Explore each puppet’s energy and personality and bring them together in creative new stories.
Session III: July 9-20, Acting Funny — $550
What makes an audience laugh? Discover tricks of the Comedy Greats of the stage!
Session IV: July 23-Aug 3, Brave the Bard — $550
Spend your summer with Shakespeare! Step up and take on the challenge of performing an adaptation of one of the Bard’s most enduring plays, Comedy of Errors.
Session V: Aug 6-10, Page to Stage: Embodying Your Favorite Characters — $350
Is there a character you’ve always wanted to play? Choose an intriguing character – from a beloved story, play, or even comic book! – and get the tools you need to bring them to the stage. Through improvisation, writing prompts, and dramatic exercises, give your character new life and seize the chance to play your dream role.
Extended Day (daily, 3PM – 5PM): $15/day or $75/week
