Sunday 11/11, 4pm - 6pm, Kresge Auditorium at MIT
The Cambridge Symphony Orchestra joins forces with dynamic soloists Carelle Flores (Maria), Javier Abreu (Tony), and Ray Bauwens (Riff), and the singers of the New England Conservatory Youth Chorale (Carey Shunskis, director), to present a concert performance of West Side Story commemorating the 100th birthday of composer Leonard Bernstein.
The 1957 musical, which updates the story of Romeo and Juliet to a New York City neighborhood divided by the bitter gang rivalry between the Sharks and the Jets, will delight audiences with unforgettable tunes (“I Feel Pretty,” “America”) and move them with soaring love songs (“Maria,” “One Hand, One Heart”).
